Hi:

I'm wondering how I can get synchornize files to work.  I highlight a folder and click the synchronize button and check the recursive box.  Unfortunately, that doesn't work.  All it does is collapse the file tree.  There are no error messages on the screen.  I've tried recycling the IIS server but that didn't help. I would appreciate any help on this issue.

Thanks.

how do you know, that sync is not working? are files or folders missing or obsolete files listed?

Most likely issues with FileSync are caused by entries in Files and/or Folders tables with invalid or duplicate names or paths. please check your database and report (here or in the public issue tracker at support.dotnetnuke.com) those situations, that are not correctly handled by file sync with as much details as possible.

Hi Sebastian:

It's not working because I see the files present on the file system but when I click the synchronize button, it does not appear in the file list. So, to answer your question in the context you asked it - the files are missing from the DNN file list but are physically present on the file system (with the correct permissions).

I don't know what you mean by "check the database".  I have not touched the dnn database - any entires in the database would have been created by DNN itself.  I also thought that the point of synchronization was to correct the database entries to match the file system.

Thanks for any more help you can provide.

eLindy,

you are correct, that FileSync is intended to adjust the database entries for files and folders, however there seem to be issues in special situations, where this seems not to be working correctly. please check your file names for special characters (like ' ), if found, please correct the name and retry. If there are still issues, please check folders table for duplicate name / path values per portal by entering the following statement inside Host :: SQL

SELECT * FROM {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}Folders

and do same for files by running the following query:

SELECT * FROM {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}Files

Also, don't forget that file-sync only works for file extensions that are listed in the allowed list on the host settings page.
