Hello guys, my company wants me to present a virtualization for web farm before applying settings to live production environment.

Would you please share an example set up scenario?

They told me to use three computers, one for SQL Server and two for IIS.

I checked default Web Farm documentation for dotnetnuke and it does not say fresh things. Appearently it's quite old and needs to be updated.

Can someone with experience about webfarm installation assist me? Because currently i am receiving permission problems with Cache folder if i use UNC Share for Website.

 Access to the path '\\server05\portalkur\Portals\_default\Cache\CC2F19AEE440CA990E8E1AFCC397BFFD.resources' is denied.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '\\server05\portalkur\Portals\_default\Cache\CC2F19AEE440CA990E8E1AFCC397BFFD.resources' is denied.

ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.

To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.

Since i haven't get any reply to this question, i m going to answer my own question for those folks which have same problem.

Read Web Farm documentation, but do not apply all settings in it. Because, some of them really out of date.

First of all to enable Broadcast Caching Provider, download source version of DotNetNuke 4.8.4 and find following file

\Library\Providers\CachingProviders\BroadcastPollingCachingProvider\Install\Install.SqlDataProvider

Open this file with notepad and copy contents.

Login as host  and go to Host > SQL

Paste contents and check Run as Script and click Execute.

Then update web.config file to use Broadcast Caching Provider as default caching provider (note that this provider can be painful for slow environments)

After that i have new question about UNC Share:

I keep getting Module Load Warning with UNC Share, if i use local share then it is working.

I applied some settings with kb articles but it didn't work all the time. Sometimes it works, but mostly it is not.

Hi,

I have a working web farm running on a UNC share. If memory serves, the error you are seeing is related to the .NET runtime security policy. Here's what I did:

  • Open Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration
  • Expand .NET 2.0 Configuration -> My Computer -> Runtime Security Policy -> Machine -> Code Groups -> All_Code
  • Add a new code group with a URL membership condition where the URL is the path to your share (with * at the end)
  • Set the permission set to Full Trust

Also, I had to make sure that the Application Pool for my DNN site ran as a user that had access to the share.

Hope this helps!

Can you please post a screenshot for this? I thought i had already applied it.

Regards.
