I have downloaded and tried to install DNN 3.2.2 to test it out prior to speaking to prospective clients - but I get the following error message:

DotNetNuke Upgrade Error

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

Login failed for user 'desktwoweb'

I am assuming that this may be because of using MS SQL 2000 on the server - would that be correct?  The connection string appears correct to my limited knowledge.

<add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=XXX.XXX.XX.XX;Database=MYDBNAME;uid=Name;pwd=PW;" />

Help!!!

You have to make sure this connection string is correct: it points to the correct server and database.
You need to create the database before, create a new login on the sql server and give this access to the database.

I an confident that the web.config file - in particular the SQL connection string - is correct; is there any way to test the connection to the SQL server other than the actual installation?

The database was created etc prior to my uploading all the DNN files.

I am now trying DNN 4.x.x on a different server to see if its me!

If you have vs.net you could try opening a new data connection from the server explorer window.
Or use SQL Query Analyzer and login using that same credentials.

OK, change of tack now!

I obtained some free space from aspdotnet.sk and got a sub-domain - now cos its free support is to say the least limited! and I have not been able to get any response from them regarding setting up DNN 3.2.2 on there.

They support SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, and the only thing I can find about creating the database/username/password etc is http://db.qsh.sk which I have checked and believe to be the interface for creating a database?

I have used the username and password I was ent (for ftp access etc) and have not been able to log in using "localhost" - when I put the domain name in there (which is the same as the username) I get a little further.

I'm hoping some kind soul on here will help me out and point me in the rightdirection - I do not want to spend any money at all as this is just a test site for me to try out DNN prior to offering it to prospective clients etc - but if I cannot even get it installed myself the prospects for my clients are a little dim!

Anyone who can help PLEASE contact me! (and if anyone feels kind enough to donate a sub domain that I can install DNN onto to try it out and practice skinning etc then I would be eternally grateful!)
