Rod - from the error message it looks like a permissions issue. If the account has write persmissions to the directory, it should work even though it isn't in the portal root. Compare persmissions on a folder in the root hierarchy and the one you want to use.

As far as saving within the root - you can set permissions on folders so that they aren't accessible. Or for your backup files, take a strategy from the 'secure folder' DNN approach and save all files with an extension of .resx. Just a thought. I'd get the permissions outside of portal root set as a preferred method.

Hmm - I tried this locally and gave Everyone full rights on the folder but it's the same issue (the DB gets created but it falls over on the zipping and portal files).

Hi Rodney,

In the current version, “Backup folder name” (Portal Contents Backup Option), should be relative to web root (it will be created if necessary). e.g.: “backup”.

An absolute folder is not supported.

In addition, this setting is taken into account only when is configured a remote folder for the database backup (otherwise, just the “relative” configured database backup folder is used to hold both database and portal files backup.

This is odd and annoying, I know…

We’ll release soon a new version with a better implementation for this (among other changes). The development is a bit delayed but will be done.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any comments or questions.

Thanks,
Horacio Judeikin

Hi Rodney,

Yesterday I've emailed you a new version which allows 'external' folders, among other new things. Please let me know if you got it and any comment you may have (please reply the email - I may not get updates to this forum post).

Thanks,

Horacio.-
