Hello,

I've recently been tasked with building a new e-commerce site for a medium sized business owned by my company. Right now I'm leaning towards a DotNetNuke solution, as I am the only person working on this and the business wants a full-featured CMS.

Since we don't have the resources to manage our own servers, I'm looking at 3rd-party VPSs. Most of them only allow SQL Server Express (2005), except for the most expensive option which has the Workgroup edition.

My question is the Express edition with it's 4GB size limit adequate for this type of solution, or should I try to convince my bosses to buck up for the more expensive VPS with Workgroup? The business would be running a retail shop along with a wholesale section for old equipment-so roughly about 500 items.  If anyone has encountered this dilemma before and has any advice to share it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Assuming your site will not exceed the DB limit then it comes down to how busy it will be.

There are a lot of DNN sites out there using SQL Express and it fits thier requirements and doesn't slow them down. The only real way is to stress test the site with the traffic you believe you will be getting and see how it performs.

HTH
