I'm trying to figure out how to properly move my DotnetNuke website from development to production. I have visual studio pro 2008 and I assume that I just go to:

Build/Publish Website

I would also like to obfuscate my code uisng the Dotfuscator Community Edition that comes with VS. I do publish other non DotNetNuke websites regularly but I have never used the obfuscator.

Is there anything I should know about publishing and obfuscating a DotNetNuke website?

thanks

Nick

I really need some kind of answer to this. I was trying to import data from development to production and it just started generating errors i sql server and then the import stopped. How do you move all the DotNetNuke data from development to production?

thanks

Let me refine my question even more. I've just been reading the 2 questions above and I realize they suck. Here is my exact problem for now. I am using javascript and ajax heavily on my website so I have lot of this:

window.location = 'JobSchedule/tabid/68/Default.aspx?jobID=' + jobID

elCell.innerHTML = '<a href="JobSchedule/tabid/68/Default.aspx?jobID=' + oRecord.getData("jobID") + '">' + oData + '</a>';

On my development system, I have built the menus and they have different tabid than on production and I don't knowhow to get them in sync. I can't be changing this in code everytime I move stuff to production.

How do I get production and development menu urls in sync?

thanks

Nick

Accepted Answer

You have put yourself in a bind if you have already done a lot of work.

If not, then you should use friendly url (for a few static pages) they will be the same no matter what the tabids turn out to be.

I would also suggest that you use the dnn url generating method like
DotNetNuke.Common.Globals.NavigateURL

Take a look at the souce of the above to see if you can get a better grip on what you need to do.

Dnn pages are stored in database so publishing a site is not as easy as clicking on publish. I think this would be a great module to do, something that would sync the production site with the dev site.

I agree, it's a pain moving from dev to production. Do you know if it's possible to go into the database and change the tabids so that they match? If so what tables need to be tweaked?
