I'm trying to make a skin here, but I'm completely lost. I've read a few posts here and see that it's near impossible to make a skin without tables, but I don't understand quite how to get the tables in the postition I want them in. So I was using Div's. I've been creating this using VS.NET 2005. I know I need to fill out the css file as well.. and don't have the first clue as to what needs to go in there. Then there's the whole zipping everything up into a nice neat package routine that baffles me as well. Basically I don't have the first clue as to what I need to do and was wondering if theres a manual or something out there that holds your hand while taking you step by step from start to finish on creating a skin. I'm more of a visual learner as well so if this manual has pictures of the routine it would be nice.

I think there are some skinning video's around, I am not sure of they are free. But I have a feeling your best bet is to dissect some HTML skins with your favourite editor preferably DreamWeaver. I have one on my site and also Vasilis has some great ones with as little tables as possible in his site at www.thinkofdesign.com

I've taken the skins that come with DotNetNuke and tried modifying them a bit to get the right amount of panes and use the images I need it to use instead of the ones that came with it. I zipped everything up and finally don't get any errors uploading the skin, but when I try to preview I get this message. "Could Not Load Skin: /Portals/_default//skins/skin folder/skin.ascx Error: Unknown server tag 'dnn:CURRENTDATE'." I tried removing the tag in question and it just moved on down to the next tag. Is there something you need to do with the tags?

It sounds to me like you don't have the code behind that sits at the top of the file.

You know - when you work in ascx mode -it's not just a matter of putting the tags in - you need put the tags at the top of the page in there too.

Nevermind.. I found what code you were talking about. It seems while playing with the original skin I deleted that section, but I found it when I looked at a different skin I downloaded. Now I just gotta try and figure out how to make it look the way the customer wants in a couple days. Thanks for the help so far. I'll be sure to ask if I need more help.
