I am using DNN 4.8 and have successfully set up a web site on my local machine and on a shared hosting server.

In development I am able to create new portals with no problem.

In production I created a new portal, setup the alias, modified the IIS domain pointers and got my provider to map the DNS with the new URL.

At first evrything worked fine with the new URL and I was able to see a default DNN site. However, a few weeks later I cannot access the new portal. I keep getting 404 errors. If I add "/default.aspx" to the end of the URL I am served the default portal.

Any idea what might be the cause?

Problem turned out to be the creation of a virtual subdomain. A new rule added to the httpd.ini file fixed the problem.
