I am testing an intranet site on a POS system. The inital load sometimes takes 30-45 seconds. After the initial load, most pages load in 2-5 seconds, some 9. Is there any explanation for taking so long? This happens when the site was not recompiling. I've even taken off pictures and the banner to time the page loads with text/formatting only. We are using a customized, scaled down version of IE6.

Any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated.

The first load is due to the ASP.NET worker process being asleep and needing to re-compile the application.  You might want to employ a keepalive service such as host-tracker.com or pingdom.com to keep the site active.

The other page load times, to improve those you will want to configure the performance settings inside DNN and potentially look for modules such as PageBlaster by Snapsis.

I was aware of the initial re-compile, but this occurs after the site has been visited many times during testing. So, I know the worker process has not been idle long enough to sleep. Keepalive service would be a good suggestion for those times, though.

What performance settings are more efficient? I am using a web farm with file replication services.

Thanks for the link to PageBlaster. It sounds great. Are many people using this successfully? There were no reviews for the 3.3.2 version.
