Most people will I am sure know this but I have not seen it explicitly stated and it may help some trying to install. I have got DNN4.02 running after much tribulation and multiple problems including the vsi not appearing to work. I eventually got it running withe SQL 2000 on IIS6 on Server 2003, using the install .zip and lots of the examples ad instructions posted in this forum. However the last problem was permissions - I had read the intstructions and ensured Network had access (all except Full) - this was done by checking in the security tab as recommended - Network appeared in the list of Users for the machine. However this did not work but eventually I gave permission to "Network Service" which it accepted even though this was not a listed user account and all worked!! In the security tab users Network and Network Service are now listed.

Moral Network account is not the same as Network Service account.

I am sorry I ahve not come across this error, although I haveseen Assembly veersion problems mentioned in the forum. Might be worth trying SQL server 2005 Express (free) and DNN 4.01 initially as there a lot of posts with step by step intructions whihc may get you going.
