Hi,
I'm looking for a serious hosting provider to host some DNN web site.
Truth is i'm afraid of  cheap hosters like GODADDY (I never tried, i have no bad experience)
so i looked for a little bit more expensive hosting company.
I found this one: www.powerdnn.com - they are offering DNN hosting from 20$ and
they look reliable.

Except one problem: They have only SQL SERVER 2005. My DNN web site is written
for version 3.2.
Is it easy and painless to transfer my web site to SQL 2005? will all the modules work correctly?

Thanks for your advice.

Yoni

Hey Johnny,
You're right.  Don't even consider GoDaddy.  From what I've heard from the community, they seem to be one of the worst.

PowerDNN is really great.  They are a little more expensive, but they are well worth it - I'm running a number of sites off them and they have excellent response times (plus, if you're going to be a reseller, they'll really partner with you to help you sell).

DNN3.2 will run on both SQL Server 2005 and and Server 2000 so that's actually not a problem at all.

PowerDNN also has an excellent transfer service.  If you're coming from a different provider, if you give them your usernames and passwords, they'll actually handle everything - copying the FTP, the database, and all that.

They are definately worth it.

And Johnny - Please also note these details -

Mr. Mobile Now also owns PowerDNN so his views may be more towards his own company.

And Tony - you did register through GoDaddy- so they must be good for something!

There is also a directory here you can view hosting companies and check their speeds.

Hey Nina,
When it comes to domain names, GoDaddy is the best (I actually recommend that everyone use them and I use them myself), however, GoDaddy's DNN hosting is really poor.

Yep - I do help run PowerDNN, so I am a little partial, but I do know we have some of the top people in the community using our services (including a couple DotNetNuke core team members) and everyone seems to be quite happy with our service.

Oh oh!  By the way, if you're interested in speeds, you should check out www.KeepAliveForever.com - it is a free resource provided by one of the developers at PowerDNN that will help increase your site's speed (through keepalives) regardless of who your hosting provider is.  It even does graphs showing access times and such.
