The upgrade this morning from 4.5.3 to 4.8.4 went smoothly -- I followed the incredible directions by MItchel Sellers.

But now most (but not all) of the pages are blank, across all portals and skins. I see the following error on some pages:

Module Load Warning
One or more of the modules on this page did not load. This may be temporary. Please refresh the page (click F5 in most browsers). If the problem persists, please let the Site Administrator know.

And I can't login because the login form doesn't appear either.

The error log pointed the way. I had to get to the error log via the DB directly since I couldn't log in. Some files were missing!  (visibility.aspx, etc)  I manually copied them from the .zip file into the proper folder and everything worked!

I did an upgrade and face the same problem, I overcame the login problem by copying the statement in the old web.config (backup copy) to the new (or upgraded one?).

For the module won't load errors, I managed to login as host after the above step and go to Host -> Module definitions and am surprised to see a lot of the available modules still remain under the "installed module" section (have to scroll down the page to see it). I checked all checkboxes for the modules and click install and most of the modules are able to load now except the gallery.

I downloaded the Gallery Module from sourceforge and install new module to it, but the albums are now not sync .

Hope my experience can help u out a little.

My post above...I could not edit the text, sorry for another post...

 

in the 1st paragraph, the statement in web.config is the one beginning "MachineKey", somehow it got filtered out when I type it with angle brackets...
