Hey, does anybody out there know of a content management module that allows an admin to restrict certain articles to certain roles at the article or category level?  for example, say you want managers to see articles A, B, and D....but employees to just see C and D.  Does anybody know of a content management module that can do this?  Thanks much.

You could do this by using three article modules.

Assign security for module1 to allow only managers to view and put A & B articles in it.

Assign security for module2 to allow only employees to view and put C articles in it.

Assign security for module3 to allow both managers and employees to view and put D articles in it.

Thanks for hitting me back, John.  This is actually EXACTLY what we were going to do (and in fact is our fall back plan, just in case), but the sheer number of roles and content drove us to look for an article based security solution.  Glad to hear the backup plan is confirmed, though.  Do you know of any existing modules to look into?  Thanks again.

The ever-mentioned News Articles from Ventrian Systems has security aspects that sound like what you are after. One of the third-party standards from an upstanding developer.

I read the requirement as being for viewing rather than authoring restrictions. This is easily achieved with the already-mentioned Ventrian module. Use one instance of the main module visible to the author/s only. Then use multiple instances of the "Latest Articles" submodule, restricted by category and by viewing role, to display the articles. The sub modules will need to be set to 'launch articles' so that they don't direct to the authoring module for display, but go into an admin page instead. They could all be placed on the same page to give the appearance of being one and the same module, however if there are users in overlapping roles, they would see more than one instance on the page. That is probably not an issue.

The mode does have a 'secured article feature' but this is for other purposes.
