Rob,

That was the missing part.  DNNCreative had mentioned the link to the stylesheets in one of their videos but I overlooked it.  I can now see the page mostly as it will look and with the css file open, I can Control-click on the class link in the ascx file and go directly to the right class to make changes there as well. Then with the actual page open in the other monitor I can see my results right away.  I may get this stuff afterall and not have to retire early!

Thank you very much for your patience and thanks to Salar for his input as well.  After I get the hang of this and designing half decent sites, I'll be ready to start pestering Michael Washington.  This is fun but I miss code.

Editing in ASCX is a lot like being in The Matrix.  You have to be able to see the design by looking at the code.  Until a skin is displayed in DNN, it doesn't look like anything.  Same with containers.  But you can edit the ASCX and have a browser pointing to the DNN page with the skin and refresh the browser to see the changes.

But it also depends on the designer.  I began with HTML when WYSIWYG was a neat idea that might work someday.  If you can't see the design from the code, it's not as easy to work in ASCX.

Jeff
