I thought it was a way for people to get emails after something's been posted.  Is this correct?  If not, then what is Trackback?

Thanks.

Hi PHenry,

Looks like you're working with the blog module today :).  Here's a thread you can follow that talks a little more about how Trackback is really just a mechanism for one blog to communicate with another blog to let it know that a post was created in one blog with a link to a post in the other blog.  It's common for the trackback to be noted and to appear as a comment (which may cause an email messsage to be sent just because a new comment was added).  The blog module doesn't support it yet, but trackback as really been replaced by pingback which adds steps to ensure that the trackback being registered isn't spam.

Hi Don,

sorry, I still don't understand what the trackback feature is.  You're suggesting that the trackback isn't yet supported, yet I've just installed the latest version of the blog module and trackback features are scattered throughout the module (in blog settings).  Then when you add a new blog entry there is a text field requesting a trackback URL.  Additionally, when a blog entry is viewed, at the bottom of the blog entry there is a trackback link??? How do we get rid of this link? If we're not using trackback features, shouldn't there be a checkbox to turn this link off somewhere in the blog settings?  If it's not a supported feature, why are the settings there in teh first place?  And if a URL is added to the trackback URL field (in blog entry) or not, the trackback link when viewing the blog entry doesn't work... it simply links to an .aspx page in the desktopmodules folder, which is a bad look...

What's up with that?  Am I missing something (as I've only started working wiht the blog module).  Would be interested to hear what I'm doing wrong and how I can get rid of this trackback link.

Cheers,

Reuben.
