After numerous unsuccessful tries I finally got DNN 4.0.2 INSTALLED  CORRECTLY ON A VIRTUAL SERVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I first tried just installing on a windows xp sp2 home workstation but I had no luck then I used another workstation I had from work that had the newest version of microsoft virtual server and jsut starting slowly disecting the instructions that come with the code.  I managed to install DNN 4.0.2 very easily by using VWD 2005, Sql Server Express 2005, IIS 6.0, ASP.NET 2.0, and Windows Server 2003.

I tried everything at first because I kept getting errors in the build that said something about remote connection to sql server was wrong.  I found out the easiest way to fix this problem.  Use Microsoft's free Visual Web Developer and Install Sql Server 2005 or Sql Server 2005 Express, then download and install the DNN starter kit for 4.0.2.  Then open the vwd 2005 and go to database explorer and create your database their, this insures that you have an automatic connection to Sql Server then once you create your database, highlight is and the look at the bottom of database explorer, the database properties should be there.  Look at the connection string and copy it to your web.config file for your connection string I guarantee that DNN 4.0.2 will install successfully.

Things to look out for while doing this install, make sure that IIS 6.0 is installed correctly and you have the DNN site on IIS 6.0 setup correctly then you should be fine.

HOPE THIS HELPS OUT ALOT OF PEOPLE, It took me a while to find an easy way to do it and I found it.

I tried this same setup in a windows xp sp2 home environment and have yet to get it to work.  I still get an error referring  to IIS 6 or 5 not being there, I have not yet tried to installed it on there using my apache web server yet, we will see.

ADIOS AMIGOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
