I have tried installing several versions of DNN in different scenarios and I have yet to get any to work:

1. In Vista, running VS 2008 pro with .net 3.5 sp1. Web config errors out unless I change the version of the system.web.extensions to 3.5.0.0. Then, this gets me past the web config error, but the global.asax errors out on line one "Could not load type 'DotNetNuke.Common.Global'".

2. In Windows 2003 server it does the exact same thing.

Also, I noticed that there is no "default.aspx" page in the root directory. There is only a default.aspx.vb page. Setting a default document (of deafult.aspx) on the virtual directory does not do anything. I have to manually type it into the url as so "http://localhost/dnn/default.aspx".

DNN looks so promising to me. But it is very frustrating that it can't even install. PLease someone help me and give me some direction.

Thanks,

Randy Leinen

Which package are you installing?  Are you using SQL Server?

From the sounds of it you have an issue with the files not fully extracting, there should be a default.aspx page in the root of the extracted installation.  For support for .NET 3.5 you will want to be sure that you are using DNN 4.8.0 or later as it contained needed modifications.

I would be sure to start over with a clean download of the install package of DNN.  I have an install guide that might help get you going available at http://www.mitchelsellers.com

Make sure you use the Install version, not the Source version, not the Starter Kit and not the Upgrade.
