I used dnn4.5 to create my company website, now things has changed a lot in the dnn world. my first mistake was I created the skin for the site by changing one of the skins that comes with dnn (I think it was the gray one). I know if I upgrade I can just replace the folder with the one I have, but would it work with all the changes, is it still the same with how the skins work? I want to upgrade to get the full benefit of dnn and most modules now are targeting 4.6 and higher...I am just struggling should I upgrade or not? I don't want make a mistake and bring the side down and not be able to fix it. Any feed back would be much appreciated. I read most of how to upgrade and it seems a little bet over my head, any other suggestions ? thanks

You should be fine from a will it work perspective.  Just be sure to back it up first, then you can do your upgrade.  You might want to branch off your custom skin into its own folder, which will prevent it from being overwritten in future upgrades.

I have a detailed upgrade tutorial available on my website http://www.mitchelsellers.com/blogs.aspx, the process isn't that hard, you just have to be careful!

Thank yo Mitch,

I am not sure how to branch off the skin.. What I did is download the dnn-gray folder from my site, renamed it to dnn123, then zipped it, uploaded it to my skins through host, but hwne I open it I get this "No Skin Files Exist In Folder" ...I am sure I am missing something, don't know what it is though, any ideas? Thanks

To branch the skin, the best way if you are working directly on the server, is just to copy the folder, paste it in, then rename it.
