Greetings

I am new to DNN and I dont know how to do the following:

In my portal, I've put an IFrame on a page which redirects to a whole different website, running under a different directory in the same server.

I am wondering if it is possible, if a user is authenticated in the portal, to be authenticated also to the other website, in order to skip the login phase that it requires, since it is quite annoying for a user to login to the portal and then login to the other website, since they both share the same users.

I just thought to retrieve the username and password after the authentication to simply login to the other website in a nontransparent way, but I couldnt manage.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

passing login credentials is not easy, since the web sites are kept separate by your IIS. you would need to pass a token in your iframe url, which has been issued by the target page upon request of the DNN module for a specific user and time to avoid the login being abused.

I was wondering if it is possible to execute the authentication code of the other website inside the authentication code of the portal. So I somehow connect to the website's database check the users, return a boolean and somehow place a cookie to the browser. Is this approach valid? Because I have a feeling that this cookie will be usable only to the portal and not to the website.

So the approach you recommended is to somehow pass the username and password throught the url that the IFrame is pointing to, and place some additional code to the authentication part of the other website?

In addition to what Sebastian stated, if your "other" application utilizes ASP.NET forms membership, you may be able to share the authentication cookie between applications and accomplish this task.  I have succeeded in getting SSRS and DNN to play nicely together in this manner.  It is, however, not a trivial undertaking.
