DotNetNuke Version: 04.05.01
Forum Module: 04.04.03

This is my issue: Forum notification emails ARE being sent, but no content or email subject is in the email. For instance, when I delete a post, an email is sent to the post owner, however not content is in the email - only the From address and To address are populated. I looks like it's ignoring the email template. The DNN Forum email templates and settings are setup properly as far as I can tell. The templates have content. If you can provide insight into this anomaly, please let me know. Again, emails ARE being sent, but there is not content in the email.

It's a known issue that the delete-email sending a notification with no content to users without admin permission.  This will be fixed in next version.

eek. Do you have a rough idea of when the next version might be? (Please say this month). Can you release a patch in the meantime? As I understand it, I cannot delete any posts my users make. If I do, they will be confused at receiving a blank email. Is my only other option to turn off all email notification so that they don't get any emails at all?

Maybe I could just edit the post...release date would be appreciated so I know what direction to take.

Regards,

Jessica.

Jessica,

I can not give any statement when the new release will come out.  A single patch can not be handled.  You can delete posts, but the user will get a empty e-mail.  I think the issue is by checking permission in the code, about the admin gets a complete post.

This is a minor bug with no risk, so it should fixed by next release.

For DNN users looking for a business solution to this problem:

You can create another forum perhaps called 'Spam' but hide it so only administrators see it. If someone uploads an objectionable post, just move it to the hidden forum. That way they are not sent an email at all. You can probably then delete the entire forum from time to time to keep things tidy.

The other bug, where the notification checkboxes don't work, can also be sorted in a similar fashion - just don't display the text associated with the checkboxes and/or rename the checkboxes to something so users think it's doing something else. (I've got one notification checkbox renamed to 'HTTP Recognition' although it does no such thing and for the other checkboxes I have hidden the text.) This forces users to subscribe to the forums, which if you have a lot of forums like I do, is probably better anyway.

Another user has pointed out in this forum that users can use the bug free Active Forums instead of the Core DNN one. However, the DNN Core does have an advantage in that you can use it as many times as you like within a portal - the commercial one has a limit on how many instances you can have.

Jess
