ppedersen - I share your frustration. I too have experience of a variety of PHP/MySQL CMS systems and have never had as many problems as I am having with DotNetNuke. Of course the reality is that the problems are not with DNN they are with windows SQL server and it's unfathomable user security.

I have tried many ties to learn asp.net, installing visual web developer express and working through the tutorials - every time it all looks straightforward but usually if I don't have a problem right at the start (like a starter kit that wont work) I end up with a problem during deployment.

Your post was very polite and I hope you get an answer but in my experience the chance of a reply here that gives you more than a snippet of information is slight.

I am afraid that Microsoft talk up a good web story but there is a reason why PHP/MySQL is universally more popular than ASP.Net/SQL

in reply to the initial post and for future reference, on windows 7 i had the same probs, the steps toi fix it was start->control panel->system and security->administration tools click internet informatioin services manager, click on the applications settings icon and highlight application pool, then highlight defaultapppool and click advanced settings on the right side. in there scroll to indentity and change the process model value to network service hope that helps someone

" In IIS under Vista/Windows 7/Server 2008, select the application pool and then "advanced settings." Under "process model" find "Load User Profile" and set it to true.

SQL should now load under the default app pool account. "

The above lines does the magic for me.

Thanks to Ereck Johan :)
