Hello,

I want to take my site live within the month. Right now SEO is a non priority, however, I don't understand the impact of running a live site for an extended period of time without addressing SEO. Will this decision be on that I regret? Can I start SEO several months from now without digging myself a proverbial hole i don't currently understand?

Thanks,

Matthew

It's never too late, or too early, to start SEO.  The biggest issue when doing it later is a link may already be recorded that you'd prefer not to use.

Is there some way I can tell the search engines don't index anything under mysite.com until a given date?

Thanks,

Matthew

You can stop search engines from indexing your website using robots.txt . I don't think you can specify date. But when you want it to index you can change your robots.txt to allow indexing.

You can block the with something like this:

User-Agent: *

Disallow: /

Tmahmud is absolutely correct. Make you disallow the entire site via robots.txt as soon as it's publicly browsable if you do not have the time / resources to devote to SEO right from the start. Otherwise your "non optimized" site will get indexed, which can be problematic to correct.
