Though, I am new for DNN, I still can tell it is a wonderful framework! I successfully installed the 4.8.4 version, played a lot of features it has. Yesterday I noticed the new version came up and I downloaded once immidiately.

I tried many times yesterday and today, followed the same instruction I did as version 4.8.4, still, I got the same exception, really have no idea what is wrong with my installation. what I did as following:

1. download the installation package of version 4.9.0

2. extract files into a folder d:\projects\DNN490

3. set proper security permission for the folder

4. make a new database named DNN490DB and set up the proper security settings

5. config the web.config file for the new website so that the new application can access the database

6. create new website DNN490.TEST-VSUN.COM in IIS 6 and set up proper setting values

7. explore DNN490.TEST-VSUN.COM in IE 7.0 (Firefox 3.0 in other tests) starting installation

During installation, database is setup properly, modules are installed without problem, even go through the host account setting up step, then I got the exception, any one can give me any ideas? Thanks ahead!!!

After some trial and error (I looked at the online docs but I couldn't find an install doc), I was able to complete the install.  Here's what I did differently (using the original Install download - although compiling from source taught me a few things...):

  • copy release.config to web.config (duh)
  • modify CustomErrors to "Off"
  • move the installation out of wwwroot/
  • give Network Service full control
  • wipe out previous version of database - having ANYTHING in the db hoses the InstallWizard (grrr)
  • ensure .Net 2.0 is selected
  • only selected critical modules during install (had previously selected almost all of them)
  • copied skins DNN-Blue / DNN-Gray from a previous site
  • probably forgetting something...

Thanks for the responses - I'm off to the races now!

Best regards,

Chris

PS: Now I'm going to look for some way to migrate old content to the new site's database.  Something tells me I am doomed to manually recreating the entire thing.  Woe is me...

If there isn't a web.config, as far as I'm aware there is nothing we can do to make the message any friendlier (due to the limitations of ASP.NET).

Also please consider not using the install version rather than the source version (the source version is mainly for developers, but you may have your own reasons why you want use this, e.g. tweaking).

Funilly enough after years of using this platform I had the same issue (it's too easy to forget!).

Hello

i have the same errors that i read in this thread. after x installations i reduce any options of setup wizard.

For me was the joice of Active Directory in Authentificationservice the issue why the setup not works...

After i'm disable the ADS option the setup works, a lot of other setup joices not! (or 1 point i have not teste: installation with other language and no ADS)
