Hi Everyone.  I'm so eager to get going with Dot Net Nuke, and have been trying for almost 2 days.  I'm following this tutorial but am stuck on installing SQL server express 2008's management console.  For some reason, its not coming up as an option during SQL installation.  I've read a lot of forum posts on this issue, but the only solution i've found people favor is installing "SQL Server 2008 with Tools".  So I downloaded it, and selected "Add features to an existing installation" (since I had already installed it without tool).  Below are links with screenshots of what i get:

Installation Type Screen - I select the only option available.

Feature Selection Screen - These are the features I get, but none for SQL Express 2008 Management Studio

When I press continue - I just get an error msg

Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

KK

I have not yet worked with SSMS 2008 yet, but with SQL Server 2005 the management studio was a second download that was NOT part of the installation package for the DB engine.

Thanks for the response Mitch.  Great news, I was able to figure it out.  I completely uninstalled my first install of SQL 2008 Express.  Once I did that, I did a fresh installation of SQL 2008 Express With Tools, and success!  Hopefully this post will help someone else who has the same issue.  Thanks again.

KK, Mitch is right. When downloading SQL Express 2005 you have to download the Management package seperately. Don't download SQL 2008 Server as this is the "full featured" SQL Server and is a "time bomb". After 30 days (i think) it won't run as long as you buy a licence for several hundred euros.

I've tested the new SQL Express 2008, better: i wanted, and i even can't install the engine on my Vista machine. 2005: fine, 2008, nope.

Conclusion:
go to microsoft.com
seachr for sql express 2005
download the right package for you (there are 32 and 64 bit versions!)
scroll down to "what other users also downloaded"
look for managment express bla bla bla
download it
that's it

Kai
