Hi there,

I am extremely unexperienced with installing dnn and am having an immense amount of trouble trying.

Here's what's happened so far:  I have IIS and SQL server express on my XP run pc. I downloaded the install zip package and did everything the "Beginning dnn" book said, i.e.  configured the sharing properties and permissions of the folder, Confirmed the ASP.Net Mapping, configured the database and edited the database connection in the web.config file.

When I then lauch the browser with http://localhost/MyDNN to start the install wizard, it pops up a userID and Password messagebox. I don't know the password and then it says the following:

HTTP 401.1 - Unauthorized: Logon Failed
Internet Information Services

Sorry if it is really obvious, but I just can't figure it out.

Any help would be grately appreciated.

thanx

this sounds like missing permissions, did you grant full permission for local user "ASPNET"?

Yes I did, Modify, Read & execute, Read, List folder content, Write in the Allow collumn and none in the Deny.

I almost thaught I had it there, Didn't use the advance button, but when I did now I saw that it was already set as the default. Still not working.

I just wanna correct something, I hope that didn't completely mislead u, when I direct the browser to http://localhost/MyDNN it says "No web site is configured at this address." But when I use my IP address instead of localhost, it asks for a username and password.

Before when the browser said "no website conf..." I had to add the "default.aspx" to IIS's default documents, but it's not working this time.

I really appreciate the help, thanx
