<rant>what do you meam by ASAP?!!!!. Please remember that this is a community site and that the people answering posts here are volunteers, who are willing to help you. IMHO the "ASAP?!!!!" was unnecessary in your post </rant>

Anyhow, the error is self explanatory: "Access to the path 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DNN01\Portals\_default\04.06.00.config' is denied."

This is a configuration error: you must give modify rights to the root of the application and everything below for the worker process identity used to run the workerprocess for your DNN application. In windows xp/windows 2000 this is the ASPNET user by default, in windows 2003, windows vista and windows 2008 this is the Network Services account by default. Mind you: your hosting provider might have set you up with a different account

Erik, that fixed me up also. On a Windows Server 2003 box, I added Network Services and life was good. Thank you for the post.

Hi all,

I'm having this exact problem when under the following scenario:

  1. Create the site in VS 2008 from the starter kit (04.09.02)
  2. The site I create is running under IIS (http://localhost/dnn)
  3. I've given the ASPNET account full rights to the "dnn" folder/sub-folders,files
  4. My db is running on SQL Express 2005 (not attached file)
  5. I've tried four times now. Even gave the guest iis account full rights to test and the results are the same.

Here are the results I get every time:

Installing Database - Version 4.4.0...Success
Upgrading Database to Version 4.4.1...Success
Upgrading Database to Version 4.5.0...Success
Upgrading Database to Version 4.5.1...Success
Upgrading Database to Version 4.5.2...Success
Upgrading Database to Version 4.5.3...Success
Upgrading Database to Version 4.5.4...Success
Upgrading Database to Version 4.5.5...Success
Upgrading Database to Version 4.6.0...FAILURE 400 - Access to the path 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\dnn\Portals\_default\04.06.00.config' is denied.

I have installed DNN other ways without problems but this one is giving me heck.

Any thoughts on a gotcha I may be missing?

Thank you,

Jose Lopez
