Charts

Can't you upgrade the report module to have following charts:

  1. Bubble chart (with oppertunity to drill down)
  2. Radar chart (with oppertunity to drill down)
  3. Polar chart (with oppertunity to drill down)
  4. Gantt chart (with oppertunity to drill down)

But a very important thing is that you can call a Web Service within your module.

There must of course still be the filtering mechanism and the other functionalities from your Report Module.

It would definately be possible to add this functionality to the module, and it is something being considered for the future.  At the moment, I am the only developer on the project, and I'm a full-time student, so I can't give you an exact timeframe but keep an eye on my blog and I'll post there as things develop.

I'm working as a developer at Danisco who is a global production business. But as you might know the core business in production businesses is not to 'reinvent the wheel'. Anyway my currently project is to develop an intranet with reporting abilities - and i have chosen to base our intranet structure on dotnetnuke - which means that i can only use the modules that fulfill the dnn standard (i think). I have developed the webservices to fetch my database information from our mssql and can use the webservices within fx crystal reports and xcelsius. That is one opportunity - but the problem is that i want a generic chart/graph tool to present my data.

So my suggestion to you is that I write a requirements specification with different functionalities and other specs.

Or you can make it yourself. If you are missing inspiration on how this module can be made i will propose you to download some of the trial versions of the visualization dashboards on the internet.

I have before worked with following:

  • Dundas chart for asp.net
  • dotnet modelkit chart from perpetuum
  • netcharts designer from visual mining
  • xcelsius from Crystal Reports

I hope this will help you if you dont want me to write a specification for you. But i can guarantee you that 90 % of all production business are missing a tool like this that can be customized directly from the GUI. I hope you will put it on your high priority list ;)
