Hello I have run into an interesting problem that I can't find a solution for. I have been trying to setup the most recent version of dotnetnuk (4.00.02 I believe). My problem is that the title of modules is editable on the page by anyone with edit permission on the module.  I would like only people with page edit permissions to be able to edit the title of modules.

The reason this is a problem becomes readily apparent when you consider a module like the forum module.  In order to post to the forum users need to have permission to edit the module.  If those users also have permission to edit the page then they get access to the admin settings for the forum, which makes sense.  The title of the forum module on the other hand can be edited by any user that has registered on the site and is able to post to the forum.

I believe this is a feature of the core that was added recently to make it easier to edit module titles.  Unfortunately with the way that several modules currently work, such as the forum module, blog, and many others, this feature becomes a problem.  I don't want every person that is able to post to my forum changing the title of the module.  I don't even want the people that have permission to post to blogs on the site to be able to change the title of those either.

I would like to be able to designate users to be able to edit content like events modules, forums, or blogs, but not allow them to change the title of the modules as they shouldn't be allowed to do so. One simple solution would be to disable the ability to edit the title of the module on the page as it has this rather undesirable side effect. Any ideas on how to do this or ideas on other solutions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Anyone have any ideas on how to deal with this problem. I am still looking for a solution.

I found a solution on my own by searching out the file that was responsible for enabling the title to be editable.  I posted the solution in the 'Using Forum' forum but I thought I would follow up here as well in case someone is looking to find a solution to the same problem for other modules.

The ascx file for the title within the module is located at admin\Containers\title.ascx.  In the file there is a dnn:DNNLabelEdit user control that makes the title editable by users that have edit permission for the module.  The last paramater listed for the user control is EditEnabled="true", simply change it to false and users who can post to the forum or edit any other module can no longer change the title of those modules.

None of the module titles on the site will be editable unless you have page edit permissions and change the title through the module settings page.  Though it is somewhat inconvenient, I would prefer that users who are allowed to contribute content within certain modules on the web site not be allowed to change the title of those modules.  You can decide for yourself which inconvenience you would prefer to live with.
