Is there someone that can give me some idea how many servers are working to serve the DNN site?  There are often 1,000 users and I am curious how much horse power it takes to serve up these pages to this many users. Is there a server farm or ???  thanks

Hey Michael,

It would be best to have Joe or one of the other core teamers comment on this, but last I knew, DotNetNuke.com was running on one web server and one SQL server.

Another important thing to know is that the "current users online" stat does not mean "X number of users on the site RIGHT NOW" but it instead means "X number of users active within the past Y minutes".  I'm not sure what DotNetNuke.com has the "Y" value set to, but it could be 5 minutes, 5 hours, 5 days, or any other value.  Core team - can you comment here?  Also, keep in mind that the X users will also include "utility browsers" such as search engines as well as things like RSS subscriptions.

Michael, For a point or reference, I have a DNN install that servers about 3,000 users and between 70,000-80,000 pages daily. It sits on 2 web-heads (IBM xSeries 335, dual Xeons, 2GB RAM). The primary database server is an IBM 4 CPU x3850 with 4GB RAM, the DB is replicated to a secondary SQL server for redundancy.

I should note that this set-up also supports an enterprise EDI application and 2 small websites (both DNN.) Even at peak load, this configuration rarely exceeds 25% compactly. So supporting 1,000 users on a single web-head is very possible, as long as the DB is on a separate box (which it should be anyway for security.)

HTH

dotnetnuke.com used to be on just one box for a very long time.  I know they were planning to make it 2, but dont know if that has been done or not.  Its hosted at maximumasp - they are really good for large sites.
