After upgrading DNN to 4.9 it appears i am reqired to add a summary to my blog. In the past my wife has only provided a description and since there was no summary it would show the entire description in the blog. Now it appears that you are reqquired to add a summary and use the read more functionality (which she doesn't like).

If we ahve to add a summary is there a way to extend the amount of data that is displayed before the system adds the read more link?

thanks,

John

Hi John,

if you don't want your users to be required a summary, you must go to Module Settings > Make Description Mandatory and uncheck the checbox. If you decide to uncheck the checkbox, the module will work like this:

  • If a summary is entered, then it will be used as the summary and a "Read More" link will be shown.
  • If a summary is not provided, then an automatical summary will be generated truncating the entry itself by the lenght that is set in the Limit the Blog Summary to setting.

You can always decide to show the entire entry (without any "Read More" link) in this way: uncheck the Make Description Mandatory checbox, and set the Limit the Blog Summary to setting to zero. Let me know if you need further help.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

I have done the second option. Uncheck the mandatory option and set the limit to 0 and I get a read more link with no text on in the summary area. So the front page is all just titles. Any other thoughts?

Thanks,

John

I found the problem, but am not sure how to fix it. After the upgrade to DNN 4.9 the FCK editor seems to be placeing a line break in the summary even if i leave it blank. If i change the summary to basic text box and remove that code, the blog entry will post as it should.

Any ideas on how to prevent that line of code in teh FCK editor?

Thanks,

John
