Hi all.

Every once in a while one of my DNN sites refues to work (Error message "Invalid Object ID" and all containers will be displayed empty). When restoring the database everything works fine again.

I tried to figure the problem by searching this forum for that kind of problem, but wasn't successful.

While investigating further I figured massive changes in the Files and Folders table of the DNN database before and after the problem occurs. It seems that a lot of folders where created newly with new ids and also a lot of files with the new folder ids.

There are some other minor changes in other tables (AnonymousUsers and SearchItem) but I suspect the both Files and Folders table to be responsible for my problem.

Does anybody know a reason, why these both tables get re-organized ? Is this connected to host setting "Auto-Sync-File-System" which is enabled for my site ?

Is it possible that this re-organization fails and leaves corrupt Files and Folders tables behind ?

Kind regards, Tom.

the auto sync function syncs the actual folder/file structure on disk with the files and folders tables in DNN. So if you see weird things happening in the db, you should look for weird things happening in your physical file structure as well

Thanks for your reply Erik.

I see the identical files and folders being newly created (with new ids) in the table.

So if the table content is just a snapshot from the filesystem (as you say) the files and folders where not accassible for DNN for a certain period of time, so that DNN has removed them from the database ? Later on, when the filesystem becomes available again, they will automatically be inserted again ?

Is that's what you are saying ?

Will unchecking the "sync" checkbox in the host settings stop this automatism ?

Regards, Tom.
