Hey all,

I am just stumped about this. I have a link like this: Login/tabid/60/ctl/SendPassword/Default.aspx from the login tab and control. When I go there, I get the SendPassword control which performs as expected. I have a lot of experience skinning and modifying the DNN code, but I cannot figure out how to turn off the default container for this control. Since this is a special control/module, there is no obvious solution. If I assume that is is tied to the login control and I set the Display container to unchecked, it has no effect. If I set a container on the login control, it has no effect. I can only assume that calling this control out like this means that it lives alone. HOW can I turn of the default container?

Hi Patrick,

When a page is requested with a "Ctl" specification in the Url, DotNetNuke displays the page using the administrator skin.  This skin will determine which container is displayed (if no container is explicitly specified in the admin skin, the default admin container would be used).

Conventional wisdom is that this is not an overridable behavior and your only recourse is to modify the admin skin.  Thinking about this, I wonder if you could not override using a "containersrc" (or "skinsrc") preview declaration in your querystring.  I haven't tried this, but it's something you might look into.

I have not yet looked to see if this preview functionality has been carried forward into 5.0, so tread carefully -- it would be a shame to find a workaround that is immediately depreciated.

Hope this helps!

Brandon

Thanks a bunch. I knew there was likely a way to call out the container on the querystring, but never had to do so. A quick look at the preview option in the settings on any module where the container is selected showed me the obvious. This worked for me and I hope that this isn't deprecated any time soon.

I never really liked the "special" module controls in DNN because of this kind of scenario. Still love DNN though. Thanks again.
