Hi,

Iam new to DNN. I need to authenticate users against an existing database, not DNN user database.

From what I have come acrossed while browsing for help, Many suggest writing a custom membership provider. So I googled and tried to follow what Henry Kenuam has written in this link. http://www.engagesoftware.com/Blog/entryid/41.aspx, but unable to complete it

His tutorial only mentioned how to set up the development environment and does not explain how to make DNN use an existing database.

I tried putting breakpoints and step through but just don't seem to get it. What functions are to be replace/modify/added. how those functions will affect other codes? Do I have to write my own store procedures??? There are many confusions in my mind, but a simple, complete tutorial would be very helpful.

I can't find it anywhere. Many people seems to be looking for such a tutorial/doc too. Could someone who has already done this help us out please. Iam using 4.9.

Regard

Ayo

Ayo,

The paper that I had written regarding Membership Providers was for version 4.3.xx era. If you are using 4.9.0 the source code has been organized now and is much cleaner/easier to do.  Last Friday I presented at the Tulsa Techfest on how to build your own membership provider and implemented a new one that used Web Services to authenticate against a different data store. Feel free to email me at hkenuam@engagesoftware.com and I can send you the sample code from that session.
