Hi,

Im having big problems with moving DNN installation from local computer to web hotel. I have been following this tutorial:
http://www.erikvanballegoij.com/tabid/36/itemid/17/HOW-TO-Move-a-DotNetNuke-installation.aspx

I have used SQL Compare and SQL Data Compare to verify the exact match of the two databases (i have manually scripted and exported the data). I have now compared database structure and contents and they are identical.

I have uploaded all files and modified web.config to point to correct database.

I have prior to database export, added all possible aliases with and without finishing "/".

www.domain.com/dnnsite_virtual_directory_name/
www.domain.com/dnnsite_virtual_directory_name

Im getting the below error and have no idea of how to procede at this stage... Im desperate for help after trying everything I could think of, and unlimited retry attempts...

Thanks very much for any tips or any help at all!/Jesper

 Hi Jesper,

My guess is that your SQL script didn't script everything.  I've seen that happen quite a number of times actually.  The best way to move your DB is to backup and restore a SQL Server BAK file.

That error you got - usually it means either 1)  Bad database or 2)  You didn't copy all of the files from your dev to prod.

make sure, IIS web site configuration has been setup properly and permissions granted.

restart the app by saving web.config file from a text editor.

Thanks Tony and Sebastian,

Unfortunately It costs like 70$ everytime i wanna restore a backup file. Scripting is free though and after comparing both DB and DB data with the tools from Redgate I feel quite secure of that it is OK.

I updated the web config file, got an error about XMLController not defined. I removed the related files for now (don't think im using this anywere). Now I got something else instead...

In IE page loops infinitely, while Firefox detects the infinite loop and breaks giving me the oportunity to view the address that is being called and looped:

AddressField:
http://www.DOMAIN.se/VirtualDirectoryName/Default.aspx?alias=www.DOMAIN.se/VirtualDirectoryName

Web Hotel Setup
-------------------
Virtual Directory Name:  \VirtualDirectoryName
Physical Folder:               \DNNPortal (this is were DNN is located)

Thanks once more for any tips or information that could help me resolve this problem! /Jesper

WORKING! I just uploaded the files again and now its working! My guess is that the redirection was caused by different versions of files and DB... thanks for all the help!
