Can DNN search, via it own capabilities or via 3rd party modules, beyonf its own database ie into file shares etc. I have just been reading about Sharepoint Search Services (MOSS), and just wondered. My gut feeling is no.

Thanks,

Sam

There are DNN modules that allow searching the file system, or you can use Indexing Services or Sharepoint Search.

Thanks for this.

Can you recommend a good DNN search module or name a  few for investigation?

You might start with Enhanced Search, which just makes the default search better.  A custom Google search works well too.  For intranet I prefer Indexing Services, though I don't know of a DNN module for it.  Simon Gibson has a decent ASP.NET app for using it.  Microsoft Search Server Express is a great product as well, but not a DNN module.

Jeff,

Thanks for this. Hugely appreciated... particularly that Search Server Express which seems new.
