I want to have a " | " inserted between each of the displayed links, but not sure how to add it. Anyone know how to go about this, if its possible?

Currently, that's not possible. You should look into one of the many third-party modules, if you need to do this.

Tony,

My suggestion would be to create a new class called SepNormalLinks and put this in the css as a background image.

I have done similar things with underlines for particular containers.
