Hi,

I have DNN 4.9 installed locally (Windows XP2) and it seems to be working fine. But I cannot install a child or parental portal!!! I go thru the steps and DNN creates the portals (I can see the directories in Explorer) but I cannt invoke them thru the browser.

Looks like I'm doing something fundamentally wrong!! Any ideas?

Regards, Walter

what, if any, errors do you get

Mind you: to create parent portals in xp, you need to map the domain name to the localhost ip (127.0.01). Childportals should always work...

hi,

how do I map the domain name to the localhost ip 127.0.0.1? Please specify!

Unfortunately child portals although don't work. In the directory for the child portal a Default.aspx is copied and run, when the browser hits the directory. But then it stays indefinitely there....

Thanks for your help, but please specify more in detail.

Walter

in order to map domain names to 127.0.0.1 you need to edit the windows hosts file. More info on that here:

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hostsfaq.htm

what errors do get in the dnn eventlog?

For parent portal in XP, you can simply use http://localhost and http://127.0.0.1 as two different domains for your computer.
