Is there anywhere in the DNN configuration where I can set the DotNetNukeAnonymous cookie to be a session cookie (expires when session ends) instead of a persistent cookie?

Hi Emanuel,

The cookie is set for forms authentication and has a timeout (set in the web.config), just like a session. Set it to the same time as your session timeout and you have what you want.

Peter,

I appreciate your comment.  Here is what we currently have in the web.config for the authentication tag:

<

authentication mode="forms">forms name=".DOTNETNUKE" protection="All" timeout="60" cookieless="UseCookies"/>authentication>

I am still not clear on how to modify it so that the DotNetNukeAnonymous cookie expires when the session ends.

Any clues?

Emanuel

that's a correct setup - your site is using cookies with a timeout of 60 minutes. If the user checks the "remember me" checkbox they get a persistent cookie, otherwise they get a session cookie. Session cookies get deleted after 60 minutes of activity or whenever all the user browser instances are closed - please note that the server will not automatically know when all the browser instances are closed (http is a connectionless protocol) - however the cookie will be deleted after the expiry period or else the next time you open a browser and revisit the same page.

I appreciate your input. However I am still trying to figure out a way to make the "DotNetNukeAnonymous" cookie persist in the memory rather than the hard drive. Any leads?

Emanuel
