Hi.  I had DNN 4.09.0 installed and workign ok.  All of a sudden my navagation menu got messed up.  Without my doing anything I got an error when I tried to logon.  I could still regester new users ok but I could not log them in.

I tried to fix it and only made things worse.

So I deleted everything save my web.config file.  I still have my database and would like to keep using it.  I copied all the files from the DotNetNuke_04.09.00_Install.zip file and entered the URL http://localhost/localDNN/Install/install.aspx to install.

I got the following error :

XML Parsing Error: no element found
Location: http://localhost/localDNN/Install/install.aspx
Line Number 1, Column 1:
^

I kept my old web.config file with the connection strings to the existing database I want to keep using.  Can anybody suggest somethign for me to try?

Thanks!

George

George,

since most of the configuration is stored in the database, please don't expect your issues getting fixed by reinstalling DNN framework files - except you screwed up files by editing code manually. Delete the database and restart from the scratch would be my advice.

Thank you for the reply Sebastian.  Yes that's what I eventualy did.  It is a huge bummer tho.  Now I'm having to recreate tables and stored proceedures from my origional database to the new one.  It's a huge headache

Thanks again.
