We're running DNN 4.6.2   Recently, We've started using the core forum module 4.04.0  Great Module. Thanks for all the hard work.  We're attempting to using the Filter by <role group> Under the General Setting.  We believe this Filter process will 'trim' the forum view to expose an individiual forum to authorized users.  At least, that is our theory!   What happens to our instance is odd,  we can add or edit a forum and select the "filter by >role  Group<   But, the value isn't saved.  When we return to the form the option is unchanged.     Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You could also set the view, Add Thread, Add Post, Notification and others permission settings by role in the Forum Admin.  See manual http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Products/Development/Forge/ModuleForums/Downloads/tabid/823/Default.aspx.   If you have a new installed 4.4.3 Forum module and didn't run the fix for the List issue in a pinned Thread from this Forum I suggest to do that.

Kind Regards

Matthais

Thanks fo the reply.  We have Forum 4.4.3 running without this List issue fix.  I'll searched for the 'fix' resource and found this http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/7/threadid/181497/scope/posts/Default.aspx  from Crispy dated August 8, 2008  I'll apply it later this evening.

...And thanks for the link to the Forum 4.4.4 Documented Manual <a big read @ 95 pages>    Is this feature 'Filter by Role' available in 4.4.4 ?

After updating for the fix;  the conditions we have for Forum Permissions by Role are; options are Moderators, Add attachments, Pin Threads and Lock Thread

The option select boxes for 'View' and 'Edit' are grayed-out   Therefore, we cannot add or remove a role permission to view a forum.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers,

For the benefit of anyone reading this thread.

We did believe the Filter process would 'trim' the forum view.  We believed the filter was a 'refining' method for permissions.  Using this filter type trimming permission method, an admin type could arbitrarily expose an individual forum to unique authorized user(s) by role.  At least, that was our theory!   The feature does not exist. We can see way it does not. This is a complex method which would require a new workflow for the forum engine -The forum core.  Most likely a feature aliking this method would be useful only to the few, not to the many.... But, it would be a meaningful application and demonstration of the the authentication provider.

Cheers,
