This indicates that SQL Server has been set up for Windows authentication only rather than the required mixed mode which allows login to the database with a username and password.  If you are running SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server Express 2005 and have access to the SQL Server Management Studio (Express), this can easily be changed by:

1. Starting SQL Server Management Studio (Express) and connecting to the server instance using Windows Authentication.

2. Right click on the desired server name in Object Explorer.

3. Select Properties

4. Select the Security Page

5. Under Server Authentication select "SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode" Then click OK.

If I recall correctly, you may need to restart SQL Server for the change to take effect.

If you are running Sql Server 2k or 2k5 then the permissions on the server aren't set right.

Either dnnuser isn't set to dbowner or remote access is turned off.
