Okay, that makes more sense...

Stripping the domain name from the login was one thing that was on the wish list for the AD provider not long ago.

Actually the code is already there to strip the domain name off it's just not implemented for a few reasons.

1.) I have to add a SQLProvider to go through and strip all the names currently existing in the database in the DOMAIN\Username format (or code for that possibility)

2.) Have to work out the logic of what to do in a mixed-mode (AD and Non-AD portal) where it's possible that the stripped username already exists I.E. I can't strip DOMAIN\MikeH down to MikeH if there already is a user account called MikeH in the database. (I'm open to suggestions on this one)

3.) If the portal admin decides to revert back to not stripping the domain name for whatever reason (let's say #2 is a real problem) how do we get the domain names back in from of the usernames (i.e. how can I tell which accounts are AD accounts and which aren't?).

#2 and #3 are the biggest stumbling blocks.

Actually, the problem goes a bit deeper... *grin*  For example, once you switch to mixed mode, how do you prevent duplicates of existing AD accounts without loading the entire domain list into the DNN user list?

There are many ways to approach this, and it might take another "big" change to the structure.  I've never been a fan of the username being stored in the DOMAIN\username format, which is where a lot of the problems we are experiencing are coming from now.  Perhaps it is better to re-think the intended goal and work from there?
