So here's my question...

What exactly does it mean that a product has been "certified" by DNN Marketplace?

Certified to be eligible to pad the account of Dotnetnuke Marketplace?

How could there be problems like this on a product that has been certified?

Scary.

ASPDNSF has not been "reviewed" by DNN corp.  I'm glad to see that DNN did not let power politics bend the rules for this certification - clearly ASPDNSF cannot pass the review.

Although by placing the ASPDNSF ad top and center on the marketplace home page, and on the footer of *every* marketplace page it seems safe to say that DNN corp is sanctioning and promoting ASPDNSF.  Given the current state of ASPDNSF, I consider this a serious disservice to the DNN community.

eCommerce is such an important function to the DNN platform - I'm surprised that no one is stepping in to provide an enterprise class product.

Still waiting in Boise...

Chris,

I feel so bad for you and your situation.  Is there a specific functionality you need from ASPDNSF that some other store like Catalook won't "work" for?  ASPDNSF straight up (read - non DNN) is a very good product - but even ASpDNSF is wary about the dnn version.  From my limited experience with Catalook, I just get the feeling that it was built solely by a developer --- you know --- hard to understand except for the one who built it - not a very nice/flexible UI.  But it's been around so long, it could be "the second best option".    I'd even see if you could get money back from ASPDNSF since they sold you a knowingly flawed system that has yet to stand up to what they claimed.  Or even work out a 50% back since it doesn't work, but you'll help them out with testing.   Hell, you  have to create a file to authenticate the version.. so they know you're not using it.  Then you can invest in catalook and at least try to make your client happy.

Even though you know your project isnt' ready because ML/DNN is junk - YOUR name and YOUR BUSINESS is being tarnished by not having a deliverable.  It's nice to have an understanding customer - but they are losing money too every day they cannot sell on their site.  And even if they really like you - they may eventually go somewhere else just to get up and running.

The $1500 for ASPDNSF is a sunk cost at this point - and the hours you put in going back and forth and back and forth are probably un-paid by now -so you're probably losing even at this point.  It'd be worth it to spend the $130 and get catalook - you'll be up and running probably by the end of the week.  It won't look quite as nice - and be a bit tougher to figure out... but it'll WORK!!!  And you and you're client can go on and start making money again!  At say $30/hour - your store is paid in 5 hours of back and forth with ASPDNSF.  And we all know your store won't be fixed by the end of February.

At this point - DNN and ASPDNSF should be viewed as Chlorine and Amonia - great apart - but toxic together!!  DO NOT MIX THOSE TWO CHEMICALS!!!!

Oh- and to all those who won't post because of various fears - you're really screwing the community over!!  It's not like anyone here is exaggerating or making up these issues.  They are LEGITAMITE!   I would expect that any company who has legitamite complaints about them would be willing to stand up, take notice, and correct it!  Not "Barry Bonds" the whole issue!  The reason it started here is because a couple community members have had enough!  It's probably the most expensive module available for DotNetNuke and doesn't even work as advertised!  IT's the same reason we raise issues over the DNN core modules - so they are noted and fixed in the next version.

The bad news:
As of February 20, 2009, ASPDNSF ML/DNN version 7.1.2 will not work with DotNetNuke 4.9.1+ in a production environment. A new version will be required to operate with existing production systems and multiple portal installations.
The good news:
Many of the issues are known and resolvable.
The side effects:
ASPDNSF ML/DNN advertising should suspended immediately from dotnetnuke.com until the product meets the DotNetNuke Module Review Fundamental Requirements or the following minimum criteria:
1.         Install without error
                     i.                 Do not break existing web configurations
ii.                 Adequate and accurate documentation for install/upgrade
2.         Uninstall correctly
                     i.                  Do not break existing web configurations
3.         Support Virtual Portals
                     i.                 Remove the requirement for Portal 0
ii.                 Module.Portal ID for all read/write file access including anonymous and users
iii.                 Concurrent users or content editors (document premium module setting)
4.         Error handling including informative error reporting
                     i.                 Request DNN before module initialization
ii.                 Verify actual portal id vs. assumed portal id
iii.                 Implement try/catch for XML package processing (and know when it fails)
IMHO, based upon my recent efforts, using SWAG (Scientific Wild Ass Guessing) ML/DNN seems to work only with a single user on an empty DNN site.
ML/DNN currently requires extensive knowledge of DotNetNuke and ASPDNSF to make it work in a production environment, which may explain why there are so few known production sites.
On the other hand, there are only a few minor issues to resolve to turn this into a viable product.

Just to be clear

Q1) Are you using ML/DNN 7.2.1 and DNN 4.9.1 ?
Q2) What do you get from each of these SQL scripts (on your site in Host|SQL paste the code and click execute - do not run as script)

select count(*) from {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}aspdnsf_AppConfig

select top 1 PortalId from {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}aspdnsf_AppConfig

select * from {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}PortalAlias

Please remove or modify any private information but post the results.

Thanks.
