Shaun,

Thank you for your reply. The ability to do SharePoint integration with DNN and to possibly run WebParts from within DNN would go a long way to help DNN get used in the corporate market more. Some of the resistence I have been getting is because it would make developers learn two different frameworks (modules vs webparts). This would remove that obstacle and allow companies to leverage their Intranet investment on their Internet side without a large investment.

I think many people in this thread have hit the point pretty good, but I'll just expand on my $0.02 on this as well.

Sharepoints limitations as I have seen them, especially for public facing sites is around Permissions and look and feel.  There is not as robust of a system defined for Sharepoint to allow restriction of viewing, and even when completed the process leaves a bit to be desired on the users side.  In addition, typically without a bunch of work, sharepoint sites look at lot alike, for some this is a major issue.

I have worked with multiple development groups and have found that when NOT working on collaborative document management they have found DotNetNuke to reduce their time to deployment greatly by reducing development and skinning time.

The $40,000 is Microsofts price for using MOSS for Internet facing sites.  This is the cost quoted directly from the Microsoft site ( http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointserver/FX102176831033.aspx ).

Do you also pay list for your cars...?  :)

Depending on licensing agreements, organizations may pay from slightly less to extremely less than retail.  But the point is still valid, using MOSS as a public portal is expensive, and in most cases worthless since you don't leverage the Offcie integration that you really wanted MOSS for.
