Hi,

I have an issue with a DNN installation on a win2k3 R2 x32 server. All of the application pools are recycling on a regular basis - wich results in services unavailable and slow sites often. Some of the pools are recycling 5 times an hour. In IIS I have turned off recycle worker processes in x minutes. Instead I have enabled memory recycling. I have set the maximum used memory to 220MB per application pool. Each application pool has between 10 and 20 sites. How much memory is required per application pool? Does an application pool with 20 sites require more memory than an application pool with only 10 sites, or only one site?

There are installed a lot of DNN modules on this server. Some of them comes together with DNN, others are purcheased from 3rd party. Could there be a buggy module causing this behaviour? Or do I have to tune the recycling part and the memory part for each application pool?

Thanks,
guybrun

there is no general memory size needed per DNN install - it depends on the number and size of the modules installed and objects cached in memory.

Okay - I see.

The problem is that if I turn off memory recycling, the IIS worker processes eats up all memory on server. Is there a way to tune this memory usage in IIS / web.config or DNN ?

Thanks

depending on what else you have running on the server that is not a problem. on 32 bits windows total memory usage foor app pools is maxed out at about 2 GB.

You can turn of caching in every dnn install, that way dnn will use minimal memory, but it wil maximize traffic to the db... thats much slower than getting objects from cache, so in general you dont want to do that....

Okay. I have 4GB total memory on the server. Does this mean I should be using x64 instead?

Would memory usage go down if I limit the number of application pools in IIS?

Thanks,
