I am setting up dnn on an IIS server on a windows 2000 server on an external box, with a microsoft sql sever on a different box.  I followed all intructions I can find on how to install dnn.  After I build it, though, it comes up with a "page not found" error when connecting to http://wit-web-develop/WIT/.  Are there any suggestions for things I should check?

Thanks,

Eric

Here are the steps I take to deploy DNN (I have several hundered installations under my belt):

  1. Download the INSTALL version of DNN (not the source, vs integrated, or other version)
  2. Unzip it to the folder you want your site in
  3. Set the right permissions on the folder
    1. Right Click the folder
    2. Select Properties
    3. Select the Security Tab
    4. Set the following permissions
      1. Administrators: Full Control
      2. System: Full Control
      3. Network Services: Full Control
      4. Users: Read & Execut
      5. ASPNet: Full Control (if available)
    5. Click Ok
    6. if asked select to replace permissions on all child items
  4. Open IIS and Create a Website/Virtual Dir that points to your folder
  5. Open SQL Manager
  6. Create a Database
  7. Browse the DNN Site (DO NOT MAKE CHANGES TO THE WEB.CONFIG YOURSELF)
  8. Walk through the Wizard that will configure your site

That should get you going.

I did what you said, except it won't let me browse the web site.  The internet sever is working, but default.aspx never comes up.  Instead I get a 404 not found error.

I am getting the same 404 not found error on my screen. Any .aspx page I try to run I get the page cannot be displayed error. However I can run any ".htm"  page. For example if I go to http://localhost/DotNetNuke_2/Install/install.htm I can see that page.

Make sure ASP.NET is installed and configured in IIS and that IIS will server a Hello World! ASP.NET application before worrying about DotNetNuke.  See www.iis.net for help with configuring IIS, www.asp.net for help with ASP.NET.
