Hi everyone,

I have just read that DNN 5.0 is released in Q4 but official release of DNN 5.0 is still unknown by end users. We are planning to launch a portal using DNN. but after hearing DNN 5.0, I would like to know whether it is worth waiting new release or should I use the last stable version which is 4.9.0?

I would love to hear your comments especially the developers.

thanx,

deniz

DS, it's a decision you have to make.
You should be able to upgrade from 4.9.0 when DNN 5 comes out (but of course testing is advised).

I'm waiting for DNN 5 before I get fully productive again, but I'm in the lucky position to not have any real deadlines (at the moment).

Bear in mind that you probably don't want to use DNN 5.0 on a high-usage production site if you can help it. As with all major software upgrades it pays in the long run to wait for the first stable version of software, if you can afford this luxury. For a new site I would wait for DNN 5.0 - on PokerDIY I am personally going to wait for the first or second minor update (5.2 or so) before I attempt to upgrade.

Of course, if everyone did this then we'd have no minor releases or bug-fixes, so go for it ;)

I agree with the cautious words, but having said that DNN 5 has and is being extensively tested, more than ever before (100 times more than ever before it seems, that's a big reason why it's taking so long).

I am really hoping people will be extensively testing DNN 5 RC2 (almost begging) so it can be as stable as possible before it becomes a final release, that's the real aim.

So DNN 5 will be absolutely perfect by release (boy am I lining myself up to be shot down later :-).
