The core UrlRewriter does more friendly Urls (without the tabid parameter) by setting urlformat="HumanFriendly" (since 4.8 I believe).

While that is a correct statement, I don't recommend to any of my clients, or friends for that matter, to use the core provider for human friendly urls. IFinity's free module is all I ever use anymore. (cept my personal site, but I am working on changing that due to trying to rid myself of an isapi filter)

i use it on my blog site.. the thing though with url rewriters is that modules need to play nice with it as well. Not sure if the ifinity provider is better supported that way than the core provider...

As many of you may know, I can go on and on for days when it comes to Url best practices, but after scanning this thread, I would like to inject a reality check and point out that "pretty Urls" will NOT make or break your site from an SEO standpoint. Consider search-engine and human friendly Urls as the icing on the cake only after you have SEO fundamentals in place.
