Is anyone familiar with a module (or anything else) for DNN that would allow a registered user to customize part(s) of a home page to items they want?  Similar to how Yahoo, MSN, Google and other sites do?

Thanks!

Hi, Bill-
There is a very recent thread with related content here:
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/118/threadid/270523/scope/posts/Default.aspx

Regarding your question, the takeaway from that thread is that the next major version of DNN (DNN 5.0) will allow admis to designate certain modules as avaialbe for use by most any user group (including "registered users") while restricting other modules to admin-use only.  This will go a long way towards achieving what you're looking for since you can add ANY module to your site and open it up for end-users to assign/use.  I assume from your question that you are already aware that current versions of DNN only provide an all-or-nothing approach when it comes to letting users place modules on a page (either users have access to all modules on a portal or to none).

If you want each user to have his/her own private space that only he/she can edit:
Unless you're willing to manually create all pages and assign permissions, I'm pretty sure that you'll still need to find a means to automatically create "private" pages for your users and set the pages' VIEW/EDIT permissions accordingly.

DNN 5 is currently at "Release Candidate 2" status and can be downloaded from the Downloads page:

Once upon a time, Smart-Thinker had a module called something like 'User Home Page.' It had solved the problem of permissions somehow (at one time it seemed that each user would have to be in a separate role which in turn had edit permissions on the page).

I'm not sure why Rod discontinued development and support of this module, but he has continued with other social networking modules. In a sense, the User Profile from Smart-Thinker largely but not identically replaces the need for the user home page.
