Hi I an mew to DNN, and working my way round. I write html sites, but have no experience in dynamic content PHP or My SQL. However, I want to put a UK search by postcode onto our site. I need a user to type in a post code then get results of places nearest that user and possibly search also by km/miles from that users post code. Its a ubiquitous module being used on thousands of sites. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks

For US postal codes I just use the US Postal Service's database.  Not sure if there's a similar process in the UK.  This is a subscription service over here, updated monthly or so.

Hi,

Welcome to DNN - I'm sure you find it very useful!

When it comes to Geomapping and locations I would say there are 2 possible options - a Google Maps module or a module like the Ventrian Property Agent mod.

Have a look at how I have implemented a local poker game search by map and the ability to enter a city (this could be a post code).

Currently neither do the Distance search from xyz but as I have the Lat and Long this is quite easy to do and on my list. Note that the core maps module has the Search by Postcode with Distance (Directory Option) but I could not get this working (there's a thread in the maps module about but it's been unanswered for 6 months).

A maps module is definitely the best place to start...

Many thanks for your reply. On many websites users can type in a postcode eg: TN3 and press go/search to find let's say a business within their postcode area. Its a module which is very commonplace, but so far has eluded me completely. I have looked at very costly 'nearest store locators' does the job, but at $5000 its not cheap.

Yes, as mentioned, check out the maps mod.
